Now that we are well into 2017, I’d like to take a few moments to reflect on the past year at Lifespace and look ahead to the promise of the year to come.
Lifespace is known for creating environments where residents and team members can enjoy rich and fulfilling lives. With that in mind, last year we launched the Living Lifespace program. Through this initiative, our team members receive ongoing training in how to provide outstanding hospitality and caring service to our residents and their families.
We reflect the Living Lifespace culture in countless ways as we carry out our work. One rewarding example from 2016 involves Brittany Lieb, a team member at Friendship Village of South Hills in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, and a resident named Georgia Crawford.
Georgia is the Pittsburgh Pirates’ biggest fan, but her health prevented her from attending a game. So Brittany contacted the Pirates organization, and to the surprise of everyone, the team sent Georgia a box full of memorabilia. But that wasn’t all. As Georgia watched the game on TV, the Pirates announcer recognized her, and the big screen at the ballpark flashed a special Happy Birthday message. No one who was with Georgia that day will forget the smile on her face.
The dedication of our team members also resulted in three Lifespace communities receiving 5-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. This is the highest quality rating awarded by the agency. Five other Lifespace communities previously received 5-star ratings, and all other Lifespace communities have 4-star ratings.
In 2017, we look forward to continuing to invest in our communities with new services and programs. Five of our communities will undergo redevelopments, and we’ll complete renovations at two others. We are also excited about launching technological improvements throughout our communities, including enhanced security, expanded Wi-Fi and initiating the development of a new intranet site.
By this summer, we will finish bringing a new dining experience to all of our communities as a result of our partnership with Thomas Cuisine. Residents will enjoy fresh, seasonal food, more menu options and excellent service, thanks to our team members’ restaurant-style fine-dining training.
As we continue to make improvements through new services and redevelopments, it is important we give residents an opportunity to provide their feedback. Soon we will launch a resident survey to ensure that everyone has a chance to share their thoughts on what we’re doing well and areas where we could put a greater focus.
Throughout the coming year, I’m confident of the commitment team members share in meeting the highest expectations of our residents and their families. May your 2017 be as bright as I feel ours is here at Lifespace.
